CANADA, Our Friendly Neighbours to the North…
**IMPORTANT**
If you are planning to travel to Canada while in the Buffalo area, adults will need a passport or an enhanced drivers’ license to cross the border. Children will need proof of citizenship, i.e.- birth certificate. Check out http://www.dhs.gov/xtrvlsec/crossingborders/ for more information on travel documentation.
Most people enjoy viewing Niagara Falls from the Canadian Side… Trips to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario (~35 minute drive) or Toronto, Ontario (~2 hour drive) are options as well!

Kristen and Kenny’s TOP 5 things to do in the area…
1) Elmwood Village: our home for the past 5 years… this cute neighborhood in Buffalo is filled with great locally owned shops, bakeries, restaurants, and coffee shops!
2) Allen St. Hardware: the site of our first date, grab a glass of wine or a Panini there if you have a minute! (Oh yeah, it is a bar/restaurant, not a hardware store!)
3) Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society: the museum is great… but, the gorgeous Portico out back is the best part!
4) Delaware Park: take a walk (or run) around “the loop” and peek in on the buffalo at the Zoo—or enjoy some time at Hoyt Lake, the Rose Garden, & Shakespeare Hill.
5) Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON: this beautiful, quaint town in Southern Ontario is only a short ride away and is a great way to spend the day or an overnight wandering the town, tasting wine, and eating good food! During the summer, the town is overflowing with gorgeous flowers! Be sure to taste some Ice Wine while you are there! (E-mail us if you are thinking of going for an overnight and want some suggestions!)

Not a SEACRET anymore!
Last weekend, a few of my friends and I had some pre-wedding fun and games in Ocean City, Maryland... Beach by day and "SEACRETS" by night! For those of you who have yet to experience SEACRETS night club in Ocean City-- you are missing out on some craziness and lots of fun!! A band named "Kristen and the Noise" was the weekend headliner-- could not have been more perfect!! Despite the fact that the sun didn't come out until we were packing up to leave, we had a great weekend... and only wish that it lasted a few extra days!!
I am so psyched that Kim, Lara and Colleen made the trip to Maryland to play!! Stay tuned because Kenny's weekend of fun with his friends is coming up next weekend... :)

Sigh... still lots to do! We will be ready for a HUGE party on July 31st and a nice long vacation afterwards!!! :) :)

Showers of Happiness!
We were blessed this weekend to have so much of our family in town to start the wedding festivities!! My Bridal Shower (for the ladies) was Sunday morning followed by a family pizza and wings party-- in true Buffalo style! All we can say is that if this weekend is any indication, this is going to be one FUN wedding!!! Here are some fun photos from the day!

Answers to a few questions....
We have been getting a few questions over and over so, here are some answers...
1. No, we have not found a priest for the wedding yet!
2. We are registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
3. No, we do not know where we will be living yet.
4. We will probably have something fun planned for the day(s) after the wedding since we do not leave for Vancouver until Wednesday, August 5th.
5. Salmon Whidbey is pan-seared salmon over a bed of wilted spinach with a DELICIOUS raspberry glaze... it is SOOOOO good! We both ordered it for that night! And, no, we do not know if it comes from Whidbey or not! :)
That's it for now!

Updates....
Well, we've been criticized for not keep this blog up to date... so, we'll try to be better about that!
Our first update is that invitations are in the mail as of yesterday-- local folks, you probably received them today!
Update #2 is that my dress arrived so, rest assured that I will actually be dressed appropriately for the wedding!
Third... we have started the long process of house shopping-- since, it is still yet to be determined where we will be living as of August 1st!!! :)
Update 4-- out-of-towners, you probably want to make your hotel reservations ASAP especially if you are hoping to stay downtown-- hotel rooms in Buffalo seem to be at a premium that weekend!!
Finally, #5, don't forget to let us know if you are in need of a babysitter for the night of the wedding-- we'll set everything up, we just need to know how many kids to expect!
Talk to you soon!! Don't forget to email us at kristenandkenny@hotmail.com if you have any questions!

Kenny's "brothers" and soon-to-be nephews will be standing up for him at the wedding...
COLLIN, Kenny's best friend and "brother" for the past 20+ years will be his Best Man. H

MIKE, another best friend and "brother" since middle school will be a groomsmen. Mike lives in DC-- but, Kenny and Collin constantly lobby him to move back to good ol' B-lo! We can only hope that he will at least grace us with karaoke stylin' at the wedding!! (but, keep the microphone away from Kenny!)
JOE, Kristen's oldest nephew, is another groomsmen. By the time the wedding comes around, Joe will be a high school grad and starting to pack for college!!

BRIAN, Kristen's nephew, is the fourth and final groomsmen. The soon-to-be high school senior will be playing basketball for St. Joe's next year.... he also kindly offered to be the bridesmaid dress model as we were deciding what to wear! (Is the wand too much?!?!)
Kristen's Women...
We're keeping it all in the family on Kristen's side...
ALLISON, Kristen's sister and God-Mother, is the "matron" of honor... and the only local "maid" for Kristen to delegate to! A child of the 70's, Al loved Kiss!

DANA, Kristen's sister, is a bridesmaid and the solver of the bridesmaid dress debacle. A child of the 80's, Dana had some BIG HAIR back in the day... thankfully, she does not tease and use quite as much Aqua Net these days!

J.B.
What is there to say about our J.B. (junior-bridesmaid)?? She is a combination between wedding planner, fashion consultant, dance leader, voice of reason, and ultimate flair!! Megan, Kristen's 14 year old niece and high school freshman, will be a vison in blue on the day of the wedding!! (Hopefully she will be able to leave the fur at home in July!) There is also a good chance she will have no life this summer because of the litany of wedding tasks that will be bestowed on her once the school year is over!

Our Ring Bearers...
Ryan, Jason, Jimmy and Amar will be the "ring bearers" at the wedding in July... I use the quotes because clearly, there will only be 2 rings to be carried-- so, we'll see what job we are able to come up with for the rest of them!!

Ryan, age 10, is Kristen's nephew and Godson. He is a fourth grader and an avid hockey player as exemplified by his HUGE muscles!

Jason, age 8 (almost 9), is Kristen's youngest nephew and Ryan's brother. Jason, a third-grader, is a goalie for his hockey team and is clearly in need of a little dental work-- hopefully that will be taken care of before the wedding or it should make for some interesting photos!

Our fourth and final ring bearer is Amar (age 9), Kristen's "little brother." Amar, an awesome 3rd grader, loves football, knitting, hanging out with his awesome "big sister," and playing his PS2.

July in Buffalo!
Hello again... Well, as you can tell it is about 1:30am-- I made the mistake of falling asleep on the couch for 3 hours and now I cannot fall asleep in my bed... so, I figured I'd give you the update!
Lots of progress has been made. The date and location are 100% set so, get ready to book your trip to Buffalo in July!! We will get more details about hotels, etc ASAP so you can book that soon-- you know, Buffalo is a major summer destination!
We also have a honeymoon booked-- we are headed to Victoria, British Columbia and are so excited!! We'll arrive there on 8/9/09 which leaves us time to possibly take the train through the Canadian Rockies to get there-- but, that is all TBD-- and it is Kenny's job!
Also, a big THANK YOU goes out to Allison today! She, my matron of honor, and I went wedding dress shopping today with great success. After only two shops and 3 hours (with a Starbucks coffee break in between the shops to re-fuel) I had my dream dress picked out and purchased! So very exciting! (Here is a sneak preview.)
So, we are on our way... with less than 6 months to go!

99 percent sure
We think it's safe to make this announcement..we have a date for our wedding! Write it down in your calendars in ink. Our wedding will be...
FRIDAY, JULY 31, 2009!
There will be many, many more details to follow, but here are some of the particulars:
The wedding ceremony will take place at St. Joseph University Church. This is Kristen's home church, but Kenny has ties to it as well, because his sisters attended St. Joseph's Elementary school (so he's seen many a middle-school concert there!) It's a lovely church, with a progressive, welcoming congregation (and a 'rocking' choir every Sunday morning at 11:30...speaking of music, we're looking for musicians for both the ceremony and reception, so if you know anyone, feel free to email)
Here's where the 99 percent comes in...we are almost certain to have the reception at Asbury Hall, which is a beautiful space in a converted church in downtown Buffalo. Recording artist and native Buffalonian Ani DiFranco bought the church, and converted it into a event/concert space and the hub of Righteous Babe Records, which is her record label. (In Buffalo the building known as Ani DiFranco's Church or Babeville, but Kenny refuses to acknowledge this with any wedding matter!)
As you may have noticed, the wedding will take place on a Friday, which will give you out-of-towners the opportunity to explore the city that we both love, or even to take an excursion to our friendly neighbours to the north, Canada (aka America's Hat!). And don't worry, we will be giving you plenty of ideas in the coming weeks and months for fun activitites

It's a lovely church, with a progressive, welcoming congregation (and a 'rocking' choir every Sunday morning at 11:30...speaking of music, we're looking for musicians for both the ceremony and reception, so if you know anyone, feel free to email)

Up at 7am on a Saturday
Kenny started this blog and I thought this morning since I am up so early that I would add something to it. Wedding planning is underway- unfortunately I was REALLY sick last week so, we are a few steps behind where I would like to be-- but, such is life! I can tell that I am feeling back to normal since I am up this morning thinking about everything that needs to be done!
To give all of you a heads up, we are looking at having the extravaganza at the end of July or the beginning of August 2009. People keep saying that is not enough time to plan a wedding but, I cannot imagine that we will not be able to plan a great party in 7 months! As soon as we have a date set, we will post it on the blog! We are down to a few options for reception locations and just need to set up a meeting with Father Jack at St. Joe's and then we'll be on our way.
I am going to leave it up to Kenny to tell you all the engagement saga, I mean, story! Hopefully, he'll post that soon...

Welcome to the wedding blog!

So we've decided to use this blog to give all of you information about our wedding. Eventually we will have details (like the date), and interesting tidbits about our reception, wedding favors, etc. We might also share some of our story (not all of it..just the really really good stuff). For example, we..well...I decided to start the blog in addition to our free website from The Knot, because I thought it was cheesey..and we only get to submit one picture...one picture! We're way too cute to limit ourselves to one picture!
